Class 6

A Message from the Class Teacher, Mr Wood

 

2018-19 Term 1

Dear Parents and Carers,

The following information outlines Class 6's curriculum coverage for term 1:

English:

We will be studying an adaptation of Baum's text, Dracula to form the basis of our English learning. Alongside this, we will be learning about a wide variety of GPS including: expanded noun phrases, determiners and synonyms.

Maths:

We will be learning about place value to start the year before moving into calculation work around the four operations.

Science:

Mrs Fidge will be teaching the children science on a Friday morning. Our topic for the term is light.

Religious Education:

We will be learning about the Creation story and considering whether scientific views are conflicting or complementary.

Computing:

We will be learning about e-safety in term 1.

Topic:

Our topic for the term is Ancient Egypt. We will be exploring the story of Tutankhamun's temple discovery and will be considering what daily life would've been like.then.

Physical Education:

We will be receiving a specialist PE lesson from Mr Booker on a Monday afternoon. On a Wednesday afternoon, the children will have a swimming lesson at Faversham swimming pool. Please ensure correct kit is provided on these days.

Music:

Mrs Willmott will be teaching the children music on a Thursday afternoon.

Homework and Spellings:

Homework and spellings are set on a Friday and are due in the following Wednesday. In Year 6, the children are set both English and Maths homework for the week. These is supplied with a 'week-ahead sheet' so you can see if there are any upcoming events for your diaries.
