A Message from the Class Teacher, Mrs Ormerod

2018-19 Term 3

Dear Parents and Carers,

The following information outlines Class 6's curriculum coverage for term 3:

We will be studying a variety of books linked to our topic of WW2. We will begin with "The Silver Sword" before moving onto "Goodnight Mr Tom". We will be using these as a stimulus to write in a variety of genres including diary entries, character and setting descriptions and information reports. We will also be weaving our grammar, punctuation and spelling objectives into our writing.

We will be revising strategies for all four operations; learning about fractions, decimals and percentages; ratio and proportion and measures.

Mr Ahmet will be teaching the children science on a Monday. Our topic for the term continues to be evolution and inheritence.

Religious Education:

We will be learning about the topic "What is it like to be a Muslim in Britain today?"

We will be learning about spreadsheets in Term 3.

Our topic for the term is WW2. We will be exploring why the war started, the main events, evacuation, rationing, women in the war and the Holocaust.

Physical Education:

We will be receiving a specialist PE lesson from Mr Booker on a Monday afternoon.

Mrs Willmott will be teaching the children music on a Wednesday afternoon.

Homework and Spellings:

Homework and spellings are set on a Friday and are due in the following Wednesday. In Year 6, the children are set both English and Maths homework for the week. These is supplied with a 'week-ahead sheet' so you can see if there are any upcoming events for your diaries.

If you have any questions about your child's learning, then please feel free to speak with me or make an appointment at the school office.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Ormerod (Class 6 Teacher) and Ms Sullivan (Class 6 Teaching Assistant)
